Durham Christmas Festival and Carol Service

Saturday 2 December 2017

This tour is fully booked.

Our journey to England’s north-east takes us past York Minster and later Darlington, the town that brought railways to Britain and later to the world. As we approach Durham we gain wonderful views of the cathedral and castle and quickly realise that this must be an historic city really worth exploring.

The World Heritage Site containing the Norman Castle and magnificent Cathedral sits atop a city of winding streets leading down to the meandering River Wear. Attractive at any time of the year, Durham will be a great place for your Christmas shopping and there are many welcoming cafes and pubs to relax in too.

But this is a very special weekend in the life of this colourful and vibrant city, the date of a traditional Christmas Festival, with a wide range of markets and festive entertainment. The Palace Green will host a Craft and Gift Marquee, while local food and drink producers will be in the Cloisters of Durham Cathedral. There will also be outdoor markets in Market Place and Market Hall and a range of live music performances and bands.
We will have some four hours to explore Durham and Northern Belle guests will be invited to attend a traditional carol service in the cathedral.

20161203.010The Northern Belle Brunch with bellini will be served on the outward journey. While we are exploring Durham our expert chefs will be working their magic preparing a truly fabulous seven course banquet dinner. We take a slower route home in order to give plenty of time for this to be enjoyed to the full, accompanied as is customary on this fine train by Champagne and your choice of wine.

Only a handful of seats still remaining. Please call.
