Saturday 21 July 2018

The annual Direct Rail Services Charity Open Day has become an important date in the railway year. Arrangements for the 2018 event, to be held at the DRS Gresty Bridge Depot in Crewe, promise to be every bit as great as past shows.

The Open Day showcases one of Britain’s foremost railway operating companies, with a range of motive power present and past, technical demonstrations, trade and society stands and much more besides. Gresty Bridge Depot is a very easy 12 to 15 minute walk from Crewe station.

For the first time, a special train will run from London Euston specially for the event, operated for UK Railtours by DRS and featuring both of their latest classes of locomotive, the powerful Class 68 diesel and the brand new Class 88.

On the outward journey the Class 88 will haul the train on electric power via the West Coast Main Line, arriving at Crewe late morning for a break of over three hours. The return journey, with a Class 68 in charge, will set off from Crewe via Chester and the Welsh border towns of Wrexham and Chirk, then homeward by way of Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sutton Park and Nuneaton – a fascinating circular tour.

The fares are great value and include entry to the DRS Crewe Open Day so there will be no queuing at the depot gates and you’ll be straight in! We’re expecting heavy demand so we suggest you book your seats soon!

All timings are provisional and intended only as a guide.
