The Tees-Tyne Express

Saturday 7 October 2017

UPDATE: This tour is now full, please

Following many requests, this is an opportunity for customers in the Midlands to enjoy a journey behind 60163 ‘Tornado’ exactly where she belongs – on the East Coast Main Line.

A Class 67 diesel will haul the train from Dorridge as far as Derby where ‘Tornado’ will be waiting for the journey north via Sheffield to York, Durham and Newcastle.

Passengers visiting York have nearly five hours to explore the city centre with the historic Minster and Shambles or take time visiting the National Railway Museum.

If you alight at Durham you will have some four hours to explore the great northern city, dominated by its great castle and cathedral standing together on a massive rocky outcrop overlooking the meandering River Wear.

Or stay on board the train to Newcastle-upon-Tyne for a slightly shorter break. Explore the amazing rejuvenated waterfront with its famous bridges, enjoy the wonderful shopping, eating and drinking venues or maybe jump on a local Metro train for a breath of sea air at nearby Whitley Bay.

On the return journey ‘Tornado’ will head the train back as far as Derby, where the diesel loco will be waiting. All in all it’s a super day out with over 330 miles of excitement, courtesy of 60163 ‘Tornado’

This tour is promoted by The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust with UK Railtours acting as ticket agents. All profits will go towards keeping Tornado on the main line in future years.

All timings are provisional and intended only as a guide.
