Tornado Tenth Anniversary Special No. 1

Sunday 29 July 2018

As part of the tenth birthday celebrations for 60163 Tornado we are pleased to offer two circular excursions from the locomotive’s birthplace of Darlington. They have been specially priced so that more passengers can travel with Tornado as part of the locomotive’s anniversary and are sure to be popular!

Our first Tenth Anniversary Special departs from Darlington late morning to spend around three and a half hours travelling around Yorkshire, hauled by 60163 Tornado throughout.

On leaving Darlington we head along the East Coast Main Line to pick up further passengers at Northallerton. We then make our way south to York and take the line via Church Fenton to Leeds, a line that would have seen A1 Pacifics regularly in the days of steam. From Leeds we travel towards Wakefield’s Westgate station, a first for Tornado, before diverging to Wakefield Kirkgate. We journey via  Normanton and Church Fenton where we rejoin our outward route back to Northallerton and Darlington.

We also have an evening tour on this date, please click here for details.

This tour is promoted by The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust with UK Railtours acting as ticket agents. All profits will go towards keeping Tornado on the main line in future years.

All timings are provisional and intended only as a guide.
