The Walsall Concerto

Saturday 11 August 2018

This trip to the West Midlands revives one of railtour names of old. Just for the record our first Walsall Concerto ran in 2003, although the name of the famous piano concerto has been taken in vain by others too.

The highlights of this Forgotten Tracks railtour are Wolverhampton Steel Terminal, the Birch Coppice branch (courtesy of Maritime Transport Ltd) and the former Oxford, Worcester & Wolverhampton line north from Stourbridge Junction to Round Oak steel terminal.

The train runs from Euston to Rugby and the complete route is then: Stechford, Aston, Perry  Barr South Junction, Soho North Junction, Dudley Port, Wolverhampton Steel Terminal (reverse), Soho South Junction, New Street, Water Orton, Kingsbury Branch Junction, Birch Coppice (reverse), Water Orton, Sutton Park, Walsall, Bescot Stadium, Perry Barr North Junction, Galton Junction, Old Hill, Stourbridge  Junction (reverse), Round Oak (reverse), Stourbridge Junction, Droitwich Spa, Worcester Foregate Street (reverse), Stoke Works Junction, Lickey Incline, Kings Norton, Camp Hill, Landor Street Junction, Water Orton, Nuneaton and homeward via the WCML.

With so much included, we expect this to be a popular tour and early booking is recommended.

All timings are provisional and intended only as a guide.
