In advance of our exciting ‘Southern Seaside Sparrow’ railtour the following day, why not join us for a great value positioning move from Great Yarmouth to Liverpool Street and Ely via some classic routes for Class 37s. Our traction will be two Class 37s working top and tail and we are expecting that one of our locos, provided by EPR, will be a former Stratford allocated machine and running over routes once so familiar.

For those so inclined, you can start your day at Great Yarmouth for a run to Norwich via Reedham. Others may choose to join us at Norwich for a more sociable start time and the run behind what we hope will be our Class 37/0 locomotive. As you might expect our route to London Liverpool Street is not straightforward as we initially travel west to Ely before joining the Soham Branch via Bury St Edmunds. Having journeyed into Suffolk we rejoin the Anglian main line north of Stowmarket, heading towards Ipswich and thereafter pass through Colchester, Chelmsford and Shenfield before entering the urban sprawl of East London and terminating at London Liverpool Street.

After a short break we leave London Liverpool Street with our second Class 37 leading via Bethnal Green and Tottenham Hale, with a set down at Broxbourne and Cambridge North and a mid-afternoon arrival at Ely. Whilst we acknowledge the pathing constraints charters face on the mainline, we have not requested any loops or track bobbins on this trip in the hope that Network Rail can provide us with some high-speed running during the day!

This positioning move is operated by Hanson and Hall Rail Services, utilising Mk2 carriages provided by Eastern Rail Services and Class 37 locomotives from EPR.
