Friday 27th June 2025
Today we present the opportunity to enjoy a sociable day of mainline heritage traction in ‘fresh air’ Mk1 rolling stock as we take an interesting route around the home counties to move our coaches to Tonbridge in preparation for our two mainline rail tours over the weekend – and fares start at just £79!
Our one-way positioning move starts at platform 4 of Princes Risborough station, offering the opportunity to ‘scratch in’ the connection from the Chinnor & Princes Risborough railway to the mainline for those who might need it. Our locomotive, 33012, then leads us north towards Bicester where we deviate from the Chiltern mainline and head into Bicester Village goods loop where our locomotive will run round.
Now heading south we head back towards London Marylebone and traverse the rare (for passenger trains) Neasden Curve towards Acton Wells and the Hounslow loop. Now on southern metals, we make our way through Staines, Virginia Water and Woking where we take the line towards Portsmouth. On departure from Guildford we leave the electrified network towards Dorking Deepdene and Redhill.
Ironically our destination of Tonbridge is just 30 minutes or so from Redhill, but to avoid a further run round we will enjoy a circuitous journey into and back out of the London suburbs. Our route will see us take the mainline towards London Victoria veering off only after leaving Clapham Junction (where we have requested a Set Down) as we follow the Up Ludgate line towards Factory Junction.
Our route now sees us skirt around the Southern suburbs of Brixton, Denmark Hill and Lewisham before we join the South Eastern Main line from Charing Cross towards the Tonbridge via Sevenoaks.
Our arrival time in Tonbridge will be a very sociable mid-afternoon allowing customers the opportunity to check in to their accommodation at a reasonable time or make arrangements for onward travel.
All timings are provisional and intended only as a guide.
