The Chopper Quartet

TIMINGS NOW CONFIRMED!
Since advertising this tour we became aware of the possibility that maintenance on one of the proposed tour engines – 20189 – may not be completed within the timescale originally envisaged. Our tour operator, Rail Adventure, has today been advised that the locomotive will now not be available for this tour. Whilst we are disappointed by this outcome, we can confirm three class 20 locomotives will still be very much involved and we continue to look forward to an interesting and entertaining day out with heritage traction and non passenger track.

A positioning move that delivers so much more! No less than SIX locomotives will facilitate our journey to London and we also offer the opportunity to ‘scratch’ the connection onto the Severn Valley Railway as we adjourn to Bewdley, where we will enjoy a two hour lunchtime break. And who will want to miss the opportunity to negotiate the railways of the West Midlands with no less than FOUR class 20 locomotives powering the train! All this at very special fares.

Our day starts in Preston (approx. 08.00) where our train will begin its journey south in the custody of two Rail Adventure class 43 locomotives. With additional pick-ups at Crewe and Wolverhampton we then head towards Bescot, Perry Bar Jn, Soho Jn and Smethwick Jn. This puts us on the line to Stourbridge Junction and Kidderminster, the western extremity of the Severn Valley Railway and the point at which we leave the national network and join the heritage railway for our short journey to Bewdley.

Bewdley offers a range of excellent pubs and cafes for those wishing to take a break from the train or you might prefer to watch the series of shunts as our class 43 locomotives are exchanged for a quartet of Choppers. With thanks to Rail Adventure and Michael Owen we are pleased to be able to offer something quite special as all four locomotives are expected to be powering as we head back towards Stourbridge Junction and the fearsome 1 in 51 climb up Old Hill.

We operate back towards Bescot and deviate towards Walsall. Here we run onto the Sutton Park freight line towards Water Orton and Nuneaton and subsequently join the southbound West Coast Main Line towards London. Our tour terminates at Watford Junction at approximately 16.30 leaving passengers plenty of time for their onward journey.

Our trains will offer both Standard and First Class accommodation and there will be no allocated seating onboard. Our journey is a one way positioning move from Preston to Watford Junction only.

A buffet car will be available.
