The Curvy Weaver

Sunday 29th June 2025

This tour is Fully Booked. Please contact the office to be added to the waiting list.

Join us on what we hope will be one of the most rewarding track tours of 2025!

What’s more we will enjoy heritage traction and Mk1 rolling stock – with opening windows! Our tour takes us around some lesser used routes and curves around London but the true highlight will be an exploration of Alstom’s Wembley complex – taking in lines that most of us only view from a distance let alone have the chance to travel over.

Our day starts in Tonbridge where our train, formed of a GBRF class 73 locomotive, the LUL’s 4TC heritage set and 71A’s class 33 locomotive,  33012 will make its way to London Bridge where there will be a further opportunity to join the train.

Our first unusual destination – at least loco hauled – is platform 2 at Battersea Park. Once a through route into London Victoria,  today the Atlantic lines have been lifted beyond Battersea Park and act as a turn back for local services formed by multiple units.

On departure we head towards Tulse Hill and we navigate the Leigham Spurs to effectively turn the train towards Kensington Olympia and Wembley yard. Our route around the Wembley area will see us enter via Acton Lane Reception sidings as we head towards the Wembley Central Shunt neck. From there we reverse and negotiate a number of lines in the Alstom complex. The precise selection of lines is expected to include some choice sidings, some of which may never have seen a passenger train before today. Operational considerations and time will ultimately dictate the actual lines traversed on the day but, subject to final Network Rail timings we hope to spend over an hour on site.

Our departure from Wembley is booked to be via the Up Carriage Line to Harlesden Junction from where we head towards the East Coast Mainline (ECML) via Primrose Hill and Copenhagen Junction. We head north as far as the Hornsey Reversing sidings that allow us to pass over the Harringay flyover.

We leave the ECML at Finsbury Park where we head towards the Stratford area. We bypass Stratford via Temple Mills East as we take the deviation towards South Tottenham and reverse in the Upper Holloway up reception.  This enables us to regain the ECML via the Harringay Curve and once again we reverse at Hornsey.

We now head back towards the Wembley area for yet more rare track via Harlesden Junction, Up and Down High Level Goods, Railnet Reversible and Brent Reception & Departure lines.

Our route home is via Kensington Olympia, Clapham Junction (Set Down) and Tonbridge.
