Commemorating the famous named train that linked London with Holyhead for over one and a half centuries, our first Main Line Steam venture with train operator Locomotive Services Limited is not to be missed.

Our route is via the West Coast Main Line from London to Crewe with diesel or electric motive power. Here you have the opportunity to step off the train while we change engines.

From here to Holyhead and back our train will be hauled by steam, in the form of  70000 ‘Britannia’. Watch the steam drift past the window as we pass through the city of Chester, and soon the seaside vistas open up as we head through Flint and Prestatyn and the sandy beaches of Colwyn Bay.

There will be another opportunity to stretch your legs at Llandudno Junction where the loco will take water. As we depart we cross the Conwy Tubular Bridge, after which the line passes through the ancient walls of Conwy Castle. More sea views follow and after stopping briefly at Bangor we pass high above the Menai Strait on the Britannia Bridge.

Now on the Isle of Anglesey we pass the famous wayside station at Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. We then keep close to the south western coast of the island before crossing the Stanley Embankment and arriving at Holyhead. Although primarily a port, there is plenty to see in the town, along with a variety of places to eat and drink. We have around three hours here (13.32 to 16.30 confirmed times) while the steam loco is turned and takes coal and water for the return journey.

This classic railtour gives you over 210 miles of thrilling main line steam travel and is certain to be in great demand. ONLY LIMITED NUMBERS OF SEATS STILL AVAILABLE.

OPTION: BEAUMARIS CASTLE:  Set in dramatic surroundings overlooking the Menai Strait, Beaumaris is a very special castle, thought by some to be the most beautiful in all the castles in Wales, while others appreciate the almost perfect symmetry Beaumaris possesses. Although never completed to their planned height, Beaumaris’ large exterior towers are daunting. Most of the castle is surrounded by a moat, framed by a beautiful green park.

Coaches will meet the train at Bangor so we travel over the strait by road. Within just a few minutes we reach Beaumaris Castle and you will have some two hours to explore. After our visit we rejoin the coaches to travel to Holyhead, and rejoin the steam train there.
