The Peak Broadsman – Positioning Move

Sunday 25th January 2026

A very rare opportunity to enjoy some Class 45 ‘Peak’ haulage on this Positioning Move as  Locomotive Services Limited’s superbly restored Class 45 locomotive, 45118 ‘The Royal Artilleryman’ leads a rake of Mk3 carriages from Norwich to Crewe following our tour ‘The Peak Blinder’ that operates the previous day.

Leaving Norwich around lunchtime affords the opportunity for enthusiasts from far and wide to be part of this unique opportunity to enjoy nearly five hours ‘Peak’ haulage at very keen fares.

Our route back to Crewe will initially take us across the Norfolk broads, passing Thetford as we make our way towards Ely. What a sight 45118 is certain to make from afar, as it leads its train across the fens, bypassing Ely to the north and then resuming our journey west through March and onto Peterborough.

Pausing at Peterborough for operational reasons, we are soon enjoying a change of landscape as we head into England’s smallest – and some say prettiest – county, Rutland.  We pass Oakham, one of only two towns in the county before we emerge into Leicestershire.

Our journey west is interrupted at Syston Junction, for here we join, briefly at least, the Midland Main Line towards Leicester. Shortly after passing through the city we reach Wigston North Junction, where our journey west continues.

We pass Hinckley and it is not long before we reach Nuneaton, (which offers excellent connections into Birmingham and the west together with London and the south). Our set down here is estimated at 16.00.

For the last leg of our journey to Crewe, it’s mainline all the way as we pass Colwich Junction and Stafford before ultimately arriving at Crewe shortly after 17.00.

This train is expected to be hauled by LSL’s Class 45 locomotive 45118 ‘The Royal Artilleryman’ throughout.

This tour is offered as a one way Positioning Move only. Single fares apply. You may be interested in our one way Positioning Move ‘The Canary Brush’ operating on Friday 23rd January. Customers wishing to travel on both Positioning Moves are entitled to a discounted return fare. Please book these return tickets on ‘The Canary Brush’ web page.
